Mark III or the third generation MR2 Spyder is the refreshed edition of mid-engine
sports car produced since 1985 by Toyota Motors Corporation of Japan. The changes
focused on producing a sports car and thus the weight of the car was reduced to
achieve better power to weight ratio. The lighter the car, the faster the speed
and easier curb transition. It comes equipped with a 1.8-litre double overhead
cam (DOHC) 16 valve-four-cylinder engine with a Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence
system (WT-i) which produces 138bhp at 6,400 rpm.
The powerful engine can sustain a torque of up to 125-lbs at 4,400 rpm. Near
the centre of the chassis lies the engine which lowers the centre of gravity providing
easy handling of the car at increased speed. Mid-engine drive train with rear-wheel
drive and five-speed manual transmission is the engine used. It's featured WT-I
system improves fuel economy and engine performance. It reduces exhaust emissions
by controlling the intake cram shaft valve timing resulting to a balanced engine
output. Variations in cam timing make it easy for the engine to run at low revs
with powerful high-rev performance.
